Frequently asked questions

Can I use my phone as a microphone for Zoom and Discord?

Yes. PhoneMic appears as a standard audio input on your computer. You can choose PhoneMic in Zoom, Discord, OBS, Google Meet, Teams, or any recording app.

Do I need to install an app on my phone?

No. Nothing needs to be installed on your phone. Scan the QR code with your camera, open PhoneMic in your browser, and tap Start mic.

How do I connect my phone to my computer?

Open PhoneMic on your computer, scan the displayed QR code with your phone camera, and tap Start mic. Connect over the same LAN, or sign in to pair securely over the Internet.

Which computer operating systems are supported?

PhoneMic supports macOS and Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 or 26.04 LTS on x86_64. Other Linux distributions, Linux ARM64, and Windows are not currently published.

Do I need an account to use PhoneMic?

Not over your local network. Local audio stays on your LAN with no sign-up, up to 60 minutes a day. PhoneMic Pro and Internet pairing use a free account with a six-digit email sign-in code.

Is PhoneMic free?

Yes. Local-network use is free with no account, up to 60 minutes a day. PhoneMic Pro removes the limit, adds Internet pairing, and costs $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year.

What happens after 60 minutes?

The mic pauses until midnight. Once a day you can add 5 bonus minutes so a call never ends abruptly. PhoneMic Pro has no limit.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time from Manage subscription in the app. If Pro isn't for you, reply to your receipt within 7 days for a refund.

Does PhoneMic collect data?

LAN audio stays between your phone and computer. Anywhere audio is carried through an authenticated connection and may use TURN. The app sends anonymous daily counts of how often the free limit and upgrade screen are reached, with no identifier attached.

Can I use my phone as a mic away from my home Wi-Fi?

Yes. Sign in on your computer and use Anywhere pairing to connect over the Internet, including through TURN when a direct connection is unavailable. USB is not supported.

Can I mute or control audio from my phone?

Yes. Mute, Unmute, Input Volume, and Push to talk (Hold to talk) are right on your phone screen while sending audio.
